Co-Head Of Equity Trading
Brian F. Knapp joined Cornerstone Macro as the firm’s Head of Equity Trading in April 2014. He graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a Minor in Mathematics. During Brian’s five years of service in the United States Field Artillery, U.S. Army, he earned his MBA from the University of Phoenix in 1998. After completing his military service in 1999, he joined Solomon Smith Barney’s Associate Training Program, which gave him broad exposure across all areas of Equities and Fixed Income. Brian was selected to join the firm’s Equity Listed Trading desk and in 2004 was promoted to Senior Equity Trader to co-manage the Energy pad. In 2006, he joined JP Morgan responsible for trading and capital commitment of domestic Energy and Utility related equities (including MLP’s, midstream, coal, and tankers). Brian left JPM in 2009 to join Susquehanna International Group’s (SIG) Equity Trading desk focusing on Energy and Industrial Super Cyclical U.S. Sectors. He was promoted to Head Trader in the summer of 2012 to manage seven senior traders, and responsible for overseeing all daily operations of the SIG trading desk.
Co-Head Of Equity Trading
Brian Byrne, Co-Head of Trading, joined Cornerstone Macro in 2014 helping to launch the firms equity trading desk. Prior to joining Cornerstone, he was Managing Director and Head of Trading for Miller Tabak & Co., LLC. In his 12 years at Miller Tabak he lead the company’s trading and operations efforts across products, specializing in the discreet handling of institutional order flow, complex algorithmic orders, portfolio rebalancing and listed option strategy and trading. Before being named Head of Trading in 2008, he ran the Algorithmic and Portfolio trading group, working closely with programmers in developing proprietary trading technology. Prior to moving to New York City in 2006, Brian worked as a hybrid sales trader/trader in the Boston office of Miller Tabak, which he helped open in 2002. There he focused on covering Boston based asset managers, trading equities and options. Brian began his career as a trader at Navigator Asset Management, a Boston based hedge fund. At Navigator, Brian was responsible for trading across all products and managed all operations. Brian graduated from Trinity College with majors in Economics and Computer Science.
Stephen Chmil joined Cornerstone Macro in June 2014 as a Sales Assistant and in the spring 2015 migrated over the equity trading desk. During the summer of 2013, Stephen worked as a Capital Markets Summer Analyst at Shellpoint Partners assisting with the company’s first RMBS deal brought to market. Stephen graduated from Brown University in 2014 with a BA in Economics. While at Brown, Stephen was a member of the lacrosse team where he earned the Vincent Marinelli Award in 2010, given to the most valuable freshman. Stephen also attended Chaminade High School, earning honor roll status all four years while also playing lacrosse and serving as a captain on the football team.
Brian Scollard joined Cornerstone Macro as an Equity Trader in November 2017. He graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in 2000 with a BA in Political Science and was captain of the Men’s Lacrosse team. After graduation, he joined Solomon Smith Barney’s International Equity desk as an AVP and was responsible for trading European, Canadian, Asian and EM ADR and non-dollar equities. Brian joined Knight Capital Group as a VP in December 2002 to help create Knight’s first International Institutional equity desk and build out their Domestic Institutional Equity trading capabilities. He was the youngest trader in Knight’s history to be promoted to Director, and went on to become their Senior Americas and European equity trader. Brian left Knight in 2012 and joined Janney Montgomery Scott as their Senior Industrial and TMT sector trader. In 2015 he was hired by Wunderlich as a MD to run their institutional equity trading desk, where he managed seven senior traders and oversaw all daily operations.
